The effect is that you look as if you are in the middle of the road. Except on an icy morning when they are the only non-slip areas of the road. But they are ankld-deep full of icy mud. There is a public footpath along the river bank. It doesn't extend to Weel village so you have to walk in the road for the last bit. The top if the riverbank is a morass in winter. This makes it dangerous situation and then there is a hard crash barrier on the left going up the slope, which the cyclist could be pinned against by traffic.
